ISTANBUL: At least 28 people killed and 17 others severely injured in the methane blast inside a coal mine placed in northern Turkey.
The rescuers are working to save the lives of dozens of people trapped inside.
According to details, the blast occurred in the coal mine at 6:45 pm at the state-owned TTK Amasra Muessese Mudurlugu mine in the town of Amasra, in the Black Sea coastal province of Bartin.
At the time of explosion, at the mine there were total 110 workers. The Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu separately said, adding that 49 were trapped in deeper parts—a higher-risk area of the facility.
News outlets reported, the blast happened approximately 300 meters (984 feet) below the surface, whereas the the exact reason of the incident was immediately not cleared.
Meanwhile, the investigation has been launched into the incident.
