President Dr. Arif Alvi issued a message on the occasion of ‘International Anti-Corruption Day’ today (Wednesday).

He said that Pakistan has taken a number of measures to effectively implement International Anti-Corruption Conventions.
Furthermore, he said that our country has enforced a strict accountability regime. It has greatly helped in curbing the scourge of corruption.
The President said the society as a whole needs to support the government in its endeavour to uproot the culture of corruption.
Moreover, he urged every citizen of the country to strongly discourage and resist corrupt practices, in any form they encounter.
He also asked them to report the same to relevant agencies for proceeding against the corrupt elements.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres also issued a statement on corruption in the context of COVID-19.
He noted corruption as criminal, immoral and the ultimate betrayal of public trust.
He further noted even more damaging in times of crisis – as the world is experiencing now with the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, he also alerted the response to the virus is creating new opportunities to exploit weak oversight and inadequate transparency, diverting funds away from people in their hour of greatest need.
