He has disclosed this to Al Jazeera in an interview which the Qatar-based channel would air in full on Wednesday, according to a report carried by the New York Times on Monday.

“Our mediation between Iran and Saudi Arabia has not stopped and we are making progress, but slowly.”

“We have done our best to avoid a military confrontation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and our efforts have succeeded,” Qatar-based Al Jazeera also reported Imran Khan as saying, the news report added.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier paid visit to both countries for that purpose.

He also assigned Foreign Minister to further this effort.

The FM had said Pakistan decided to advance diplomatic relations with other regional countries.

However, he said it aims at peaceful resolution of tensions between Iran and the United States.

Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed him to visit Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States.

He further said that the visits aim at pursuing Pakistan’s desire for peace and to settle matters.

Moreover, he said Pakistan will play whatever role it can do to protect the region from war.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan also called for de-escalation.

He said this, while talking to Oman’s Minister for Endowment and Religious Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abdullah Assalami today.

Prime Minister Imran Khan called for immediate measures for de-escalation in the Middle East and Gulf region.

During meeting in Islamabad, he expressed deep concern over the evolving situation in the region.
