Farogh Nasim resigns as Law Minister

He resigned to represent the federation in the Presidential Reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa in the Supreme Court.

In a statement issued today, he said he has great respect for the honorable judges and the judiciary.

Farogh Nasim said he has no personal vendetta with any person, judge, Bar Council or a lawyer, not even with Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

He forwarded his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan today.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court (SC) will resume hearing of the case on June 2.

A 10-member judge bench, headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, will conduct hearing.

The federal government will respond over Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s petition in which he maintained that the presidential reference against him based on malafide intent.

Barrister Farogh Naseem had earlier resigned from his post as well to represent Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa in the apex court.

Later, he again sworn in as the federal minister.

President Arif Alvi’s presidential reference filed against Justice Isa back in May 2019 after the results of the inquiry.

In February, 2020l, the apex court had directed the federal government to explain in court whether the Asset Recovery Unit (ARU) empowered to conduct an inquiry against a sitting judge of the apex court.

The reference accused Justice Isa of failing to disclose assets belonging to his wife and children in his tax returns.

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) had taken up the case.

Meanwhile, some petitioners filed petitions in the top court against the reference. They also include the Pakistan Bar Council.

Hence, the top court constituted bench to conduct hearings into these petitions.
