Aurat March pelted with stones in Islamabad today (Sunday).
The two different rallies held on International Women’s Day in Islamabad.
Participants of one’s rally’s tried to enter the Aurat Azadi March.
Although police had arranged tent wall to keep both rallies away but a few people had managed to enter Aurat march.
They pelted them with stones.
Activists and NGOs began organising “Aurat March” in 2018 to celebrate the International Women’s Day.
But some banners, posters and slogans in the Aurat March led to the controversy last year.
However, they named that “Hum Aurtain” in Karachi.
Last year, it extended to other cities, including Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Larkana and Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated their support for the day.
PM Khan said it is indeed encouraging to see that our women are proving their mettle in every walk of life.
He hailed women achieving excellence in their respective fields at national and international level.
“I firmly believe that inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development can only be ensured by providing equal opportunities and a conducive environment to our women. I reaffirm my pledge on this day to take all measures that would help our women to lead a safe, secure and prosperous life.”
The activists gathered in front of the Lahore Press Club.
They held placards, played drums, chanted slogans and clapped while demanding “independence of women.”
They also demanded basic rights for women in each field of life.
Later, the march went through Egerton road and culminatged at Aiwan-e-Iqbal.
