The SHC noted illegality of both transfers because the issuing authority had not followed official procedure.
During the hearing, the SHC observed that Sindh government cannot transfer police officials without consulting the Inspector General (IG) of Police.
The provincial government had transferred 80 police officers including the DIG and SP without informing the IGP. Hence the aggrieved party approached the court against violation of law.
SHC had suspended the transfer notifications of both officials during the previous hearing.

Sindh Government Vs Sindh Police

Controversy

PM had summoned IG Sindh Kaleem Imam due to persisting controversy on his posting in the province.

Tuesday also witnessed war of words between Sindh government and Inspector General Police.

The federal cabinet members also raised the issue of IG Sindh police.

Federal cabinet members belonging to PTI and GDA expressed concerns over the issue of Kaleem Imam’s transfer.

Earlier, federal cabinet had handed over the matter to Governor Sindh Imran Ismail and Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah.

Sources said that the government members from Sindh also expressed concerns over IG Sindh issue.

Because of intra-coalition pressure, cabinet decided to further consult Sindh governor and CM for finalising the IGP appointment.

While reacting to certain speculations, Kaleem Imam denied his transfer. He spoke of a conspiracy against him.

“This ceremony is being considered as my farewell ceremony […] It seems like Sindh police are trying to save its budget,” he added.

However, Sindh minister Saeed Ghani and CM’s adviser Murtaza Wahab also reiterated their opposition to his retaining as IG Sindh.
